Hot on the heels of his Ethical Sales workshop programme, Ashley Latter provides an easy to read guide to communicating your value to patients and achieving the income that your dental treatments deserve. This small book of just over 100 pages can be tackled in half a day and the ideas can be put to use in surgery almost immediately.
Michael Gerber’s best selling E-Myth has been reviewed and re-edited specifically for the dental market place. The book provides an easy to read guide covering people, processes, systems and marketing and provides some helpful insight into why many small dental practices are nowhere near as successful as they should be.
While a 4 hour workweek could be a bit of a stretch for those dentists who want to continue with clinical practice, there is no doubt this book has countless methods by which other ‘stuff’ can be eliminated or outsourced from the dentists busy schedule, freeing up more time for clinical work, or just free time.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen Covey
No business book library would be complete without the 7 habits, arguably THE business book. My own experience with the 7 habits is that each of them highlights ‘logical’ things we should be doing, like putting our top goals first on the to-do list, but which we all seem to forget in the hustle bustle of life. The 7 habits is a serious undertaking (probably not a holiday read), but the investment of time and effort is well worth it.
The Number is an essential read for anyone confused about the true cost of their retirement. Lee Eisenberg breaks down the retirement planning stages into easy to read steps, the culmination of which is ‘your number’ – the amount you need to be comfortable for the rest of your life. An interesting read that often creates new possibilities and ideas about retirement.
The Life Planning movement continues to gain traction in the UK, with more and more people rejecting the idea of working 9-5 for 40 years and then retiring when the state tells them to. Life Planning For You is a fantastic read at any time in life, but it becomes particularly powerful in the run up to retirement. The caption says it all really “How to design and deliver the life of your dreams.

“I have been working with Matthew for the past 5 years now and during that time he has helped me to transform my various savings, investments and pensions into a simple, coherent retirement plan. Matthew’s knowledge of the dental world is invaluable and he has used this knowledge to save me over £140,000 in potential tax charges, not to mention cutting my investment costs in half.”
Adam Copsey – Chelmsford, Chelmsford
“As I contemplate retirement Matthew has given me the confidence that I will be comfortable for the rest of my life and that the proceeds from my dental practice will be invested wisely with his guidance.”
David Casey, Dartford
“In just a few short months, Matt has shown me that it is possible for me to seriously consider retirement at least 2 years early – I had been resigned to the ‘usual’ age of 60. At the same time, Matt has significantly simplified and streamlined my pensions and investments, reducing my risk and saving me £1,000’s in costs in the process.”
